I write because it makes me smile. I read because it makes me think.

Thank you, Karyl Lyne, for the following information.

JoyJoy! is a gospel Christmas celebration by well-known sacred music composer and arranger, Joel Raney. Raney writes, “Joy! tells the story of Christ’s birth through six choral anthems based on familiar Christmas carols and original material. There are upbeat blues-gospel numbers as well as slower ballads in a gospel groove, plus one calypso tune.”

The First United Presbyterian Church choir is grateful for Amy Hufnal, a newcomer to Las Vegas and teacher at Robertson High School, for bringing Joy! to our attention and stepping up to conduct it.

Chad Boliek, member of the choir and an Honorably Retired Presbyterian Pastor, will narrate the story. Ralph Marquez, Las Vegas percussionist, will provide the wide array of rhythmic enhancements. Dr. Em Krall, FUPC accompanist par excellence, will be at the keyboard of the beautiful seven foot Steinway recently gifted to FUPC by an anonymous donor. Karyl Lyne and Christie Baskett will solo a bit.

Joy! begins at 3:00 pm. on on Sunday, Dec. 16, at First United Presbyterian Church, 1000 Douglas Ave., across from the main post office. All are welcome to come and join in the celebration!

  1. Sharon, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a wonderful afternoon. You share so much–is your name derived from “to share?”==Share-on?
